How to Celebrate All Things Spooky in Coweta County

If you watched a single episode of AMC’s 11-season zombie apocalypse television show The Walking Dead, then you’ll love getting a behind-the-scenes peek into the massively successful production. Fans of the Emmy-winning horror drama may know that much of the show was filmed in Senoia and in other parts of Coweta County, and while you can visit any time of year, there’s something that’s extra spine-tingling about visiting in the fall. Popular film locations to check out include “The Commonwealth Wall” or “Outpost 22” near the Senoia Farmer’s Market at 40 Travis Street in Senoia; town of Alexandria located at the bottom of Mainstreet in Senoia (Note: This is a private neighborhood but you can easily view it from across the railroad tracks); and the “Away With You” wall at 11 Church Street in Grantville.

After your filming tour, step into  The Woodbury Shoppe in Senoia. There you’ll find exclusive gear, licensed products and merchandise, collectibles, and iconic props! Take home your favorite souvenir and own a piece of the apocalypse. 

For the full Walking Dead experience, book a tour with the Georgia Locations Scout or Water Tower Tours, both of whom offer guided tours (on wheels or heels) where you will discover little-known information about the making of the show. 

One of the best things about fall is that it is finally cool enough to enjoy outdoor festivals. Coweta County takes full advantage of the mild temperatures by orchestrating a full fall calendar of special events.  

The fun kicks off on October 3 with Oktoberfest, a beer-tasting event and fall festival celebration hosted in the Downtown Newnan Square.  

As Halloween creeps closer, the festivities kick up a notch with a special Halloween-themed edition of Alive After Five on October 17. The night includes arts, crafts, kids’ activities, music, food, drinks and artisan vendors in Senoia. For this edition, there will be special fall cocktails, candy apples and a dog costume contest.  

On October 25 folks can come back to downtown Newnan for the Spirits & Spice Festival from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The fun continues with a chili cook-off, food and drink specials, a craft market and more children’s activities. 

For an eerie night out, that may deliver a few jump scares, secure a ticket for the Oak Hill Cemetery Tour. Tours start at the McRitchie-Hollis Museum on October 17 and October 25 and last between 60 to 90 minutes. Take a guided tour through the cemetery where you will hear ghost stories and urban legends, and you may even earn a visit from the dearly departed. The price of your ticket includes the guided cemetery tour, museum tour, live music and an Oink Joint BBQ Dinner. The VIP tickets include all aforementioned plus special seating, treats and admittance to the Ghosts & Ghouls Ball on October 24 at 7:00pm.  

For the ladies, the 5th Annual Witches Boutique Crawl takes place on October 24 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. During the free event, downtown Newnan hosts a ladies’ night out where shops and restaurants offer treats, specials, sales, raffle prizes and more. Just be sure to wear your best witch’s costume. 

If you want to cheers to a fearsome fall, there are several places to get a seasonal sip in Coweta County. During the day, Leaf & Bean in downtown Newnan is all about the coffee, tea and pastries, but at night it transforms into the Lounge at Leaf & Bean, an after-hours bar specializing in craft cocktails.
